What is Cold Laser Therapy?

Cold laser therapy is a type of low-intensity laser therapy that uses low levels of light to stimulate healing.

The term “cold” refers to the fact that the low levels of light do not cause significant heating of the tissue, unlike other forms of laser therapy used for surgical or aesthetic purposes.

How does Cold Laser Therapy work?

The method has been shown to effectively boost the body’s natural healing and repair processes in response to injury, sports and workout injuries, inflammation, and certain diseases. It consistently provides pain relief, minimizes injury damage and loss of function, and speeds up the repair of damaged tissues to result in stronger healed tissue structures.

Cold Laser Therapy works by photo-stimulating specific wavelengths that interact with the light-sensitive biological cell receptors (chromophores) in the body, modifying the effects of injured tissue and reducing the inflammation duration. This ultimately reduces pain, spasms, and improves the natural range of motion and flexibility of the affected area(s).

What makes Cold Laser Therapy successful?

The success of Cold Laser Therapy is based on the proper penetration and delivery of energy to the target tissue. By understanding how biological organelles react to different laser wavelengths and energy levels, researchers and clinicians have been able to determine which wavelengths penetrate most deeply and effectively stimulate biological processes.

The distribution of the laser light in tissue depends on the wavelength, with shorter wavelengths producing a smaller and rounder distribution, while longer wavelengths produce a more egg-shaped distribution with greater penetration. Longer wavelengths are less readily absorbed by blood and skin surface components, enabling deeper penetration and more effective stimulation of the target area.
